Combat Base

Neutral Positions

Combat Base is the upright kneeling base a passer takes inside an open guard: one knee up, one knee down, spine tall. It is deliberately neutral — it is not yet a pass and no longer a guard, but the platform from which the top partner commits weight forward and moves to either side. Most standing and kneeling passes are entered from or recovered back into it.
